” All the books in the library holding their breath waiting to be taken by a kid just like me”
-Abigail age 7
I will admit, I am beyond excited that I am raising a houseful of young readers with a ferocious appetite for a great books.
I’m very much like that too.
I latch a series and finish it before I move on to something new. It’s almost painful when you have to wait an entire year for the next book in the series but I have done that.
Sometimes I already know what I want to read next and have a huge stack waiting on my night side table.
Sometimes I feel like I’m floundering around for a couple of days waiting for the right book to catch my interest.
Awhile ago I read an article by Huffington post of the ” 30 books that should be read in your 30s”.
Perfect starting point if you’re looking for something to read right?
I scrolled up and down that list but I just couldn’t find anything I wanted to read.
Perhaps I have diverse tastes but nothing appealed to me but I think it’s simpler than that.
My husband can vouch for me on this one. Tell me I just ” have” to try this or do that and something inside of me slams shut and I don’t want anything to do with it. At all.
I’ve been trying to work on that flawed character trait.
I haven’t read a romance novel since college and to this day I feel were directly responsible for many of my unrealistic relational expectations and more horrible dates than I care to remember; but that’s a post for another time.
I don’t read true crime books because they are just too graphic for my taste and out of respect for the victims I just can’t put a book like that in my library. Perhaps I am just too picky?
I’m not “stuck” for anything to read now as I have two books “on the go” already. The first book we are reading As a church. I know this might sound a little strange at first but just hear me out. We are spending the next six weeks submerged in a book called “not a fan” by Kyle Idleman. We will be hearing sermons preached on this book and our small group discussing it on our study night. Great way to get into a book eh!
It’s about being a completes the committed follower of Jesus and what that looks like. I read the prologue (which I never ever read) and was instantly hooked so every free chance I have had I sneak off somewhere quiet to read.
The second book saving space on my Kobo is Unspoken by one of my favorite authors Dee Henderson which I am super excited about AND when I peaked on Amazon I learned that in April she will be releasing another new book so I will have something to look forward too.
Three, I have three books. That should last me till oh, February and then I will start looking all over again. What about you? **sigh**
What are you reading in 2014?
**updated** because this is too good to keep to myself but it’s only available until the 10th of January so act fast!
I love reading, too. In fact, I sometimes review books on my blog. My frustration is that there are too many books I want to read and not enough time to read them! You should see the stack next to my bed. 🙂
It’s official we need more hours in the day for reading!
What was your favorite book that you reviewed?
I love reading. Lately I have been reading lots of humor books, and cookbooks. I need to sit down with a novel soon!
I have oodles of cook books but most of them are gathering dust.
What was one of your most recommended humor book?
i think i’m going to read the divergent series next
I have never hear of this series!
Who’s it written by?
What’s it about?
Oh my! So great that you make time to read. I honestly don’t make time to read anything except blogs and most importantly my Bible since I’m a believer in Jesus Christ. With chasing after my toddler…carrying baby #2 and taking care of the house and hubby, it’s all I have time for. I have a book I’m trying to continue to read that a friend was in that I’m trying to get through because I wanted to post a review for it. That’s taking me forever to get through but it’s pretty good so far. 🙂
Did you check out the Beth Moore freebies?
She is one of my favorite Christian authors! God has used her to teach me so much!!
Awe I love your daughters comment. We are huge book addicts here. We have e bookcases filled with them plus 1300 Kindle ebooks.
I just for a kobo so there are officially 2 books that I purchased.
Haven’t checked out the “library”
Yet so I’m not sure how many books they are loaded with…
I’m headed to go check out the list of ’30 books you should read before you’re 30′! I’m an avid reader thanks to my Mom and hope to illicit that same love of books in my daughters!
I’m going to peak at it again in a couple of weeks.
Perhaps something might jump out then 🙂
I started reading to my kids when they were super young so they grew up with it. Plus they see me read all the time so it helps!
I just looked at the list and some of those are pretty heavy so I think I’d need to pepper in some fluff between them! I have a Jodi Picoult book on my nightstand right now which I’m just waiting for a few minutes of nothingness to pick up and start!
I have to confess, I wait until there are a few books in the series before I start one. I just can’t cope with waiting a year for the next one to come out. Love that you’re raising a household of readers, too!
One of my favorite things to do is read, although I don’t always have a lot of time to do so. I have a very long reading list this year too!
I wish i had more time to read books other than my school books
Both of my kids are really big into books and I love it! We limit their tv and iPad time so they turn to books for entertainment which I think is awesome.
I’m a reading specialist, so I love this! However, my second grader doesn’t really have a love for reading that I hoped she would have! She is a terrific reader, super smart and all – but needs to find a series or an author that will hook her! Right now we are reading The BFG together. She loves how sily he is and so do I!
I used to love to read, and I still do! These days Im mainly reading kids books though!
I love reading, but haven’t really had the time for it lately! When i get started with a good book, I can’t put it down, and won’t do anything else…all day! lol
I love reading. I can almost pick up anything and be happy with it.
I read a lot and enjoy all types of genre! Especially romance, mystery and some futuristic.
@DebbieDenny I love a good mystery book!
It’s been forever since I read one.
I need to get back to reading been so busy with work.
I haven’t read a complete book in a year. I start & stop. Yep I need to read more
I know this might sound crazy, but I would love to re-read the Chronicles of Narnia. Read them with my son years ago. I love them.
@Chrishelle Ebner not at all!!
I have read the series twice myself and have gotten something new out of it each time.
